This Tier List ranks all Tension Cards based on their performance in the currently available endgame content.
About the ranks
- S+: S+: Best cards in the game.
- S: Meta cards that are commonly run in most teams.
- A: Strong cards that are too niche or specific to be rated higher.
- B: The effect on the card itself isn’t good, but it’s not bad either. Average cards.
- C: Weak but not terrible effects. Below average cards.
- D: These cards suck, but at least they aren’t actively detrimental.
- F: Actively detrimental cards, running them makes your life harder. We actually have some of these.
About the labels
- HARD: Indicates that the card's effect is either difficult or tedious to activate or maintain.
- REQMT: This means the card requires a specific character to be used effectively or to sustain its effect. (Check the card details for more information.)

Full Party

THE meta card. It's surprising that this card was given out for free. A ton of crit rate for the WHOLE team with a negligible condition is absurd; having to slot in Strike Zone is a small price to pay for it.
All Party Members
Increase Critical Rate by3.24%, and increase Defense point by3.24%. When granted [Unity], there will be 2x effectiveness.

When there are 3 party members, increase party member's Defense point by 5%.
If 1 party member is knocked out, this effect will be removed.

Strike Zone

This card is meta exclusively due to being the only card that grants the team the Unity effect. Its effect is terrible otherwise, but since it IS meta its rating is unfortunately inflated.
All Party Members
When a Secondary Attack hits, increase Secondary Attack DMG Multiplier by0.36%. At the start of battle, grant party members [Unity].
[Unity]
When there are 3 party members, increase party member's Defense point by 5%.
If 1 party member is knocked out, this effect will be removed.

Bad Wish

Actually better than it looks for Enoki. The crit rate is honestly whatever in the wake of Full Party + Things to Hold On To, but the real bonus is completely disabling healing (a QOL buff that should honestly have been attached to her passive 2). The stamina recovery increase is also very handy for a character who has such expensive stamina costs.
Characters: Conditions Met
The operating character cannot receive any Recovery Effect. Instead, increase Critical Rate by2.4%, and grant them [Verge of Death]. This effect will be removed upon a character change.
[Verge of Death]
Maximum 3 stacks.
Stacks will increase over time.
Based on the number of stacks, increase Critical Rate by2.4%and increase basic Stamina recovery by3.6%.
When taking damage or if there is a character change, all stacks will be removed.

Things to Hold On To

TIER S
Strong card provided you can activate a shield early. Kazuki is unsurprisingly the obvious choice since he just needs to strategy skill at the start of the fight. Senju CAN use this card too, but it’s a lot of extra steps (need to strategy skill multiple times, ideally have his T1 dupe, all while sacrificing break speed to do it or delaying your nuke after breaking to stack up the crit rate; also you still need to find additional attack sources somewhere) and Minami isn’t exactly great. Can also be activated with Ejection if you don’t mind slotting that in.
Characters: Conditions Met
When granting Shield, grant party members [Night Time Ponder] while increasing Critical Rate by2.7% for 30s.
[Night Time Ponder]
Maximum 3 stacks.
Increase Critical Rate by1.8% for each stack.
When under [Night Time Ponder], each time an Additional Attack hits, stacks will increase.

Bombard

While this card can enable some absurd damage output, it’s generally overkill for current content. Enabling this card is also a painful proposition for most teams, requiring some ult efficiency rolls or running Senju/Miu.

After executing an Ultimate Skill, if an Ultimate Skill is executed within 10s, increase the Ultimate Skill DMG Multiplier of that character by14.4% for 10s.

Power Harassment

Control is an insanely good debuff, so Power Harassment is pretty good. However, it’s a shop only card and Maximization/Excuse are significantly more accessible.
Special Condition
When the operating character's Chain Skill hits, grant the target [Control] for3.6s. When the target is already granted [Control], the effect is replaced with [Command] and is granted to all enemies for3.6s.
[Control]
When the operating character takes damage from an enemy under [Control], decrease the enemy's Tension by 3.
When launching an attack towards an enemy under [Control], increase own Critical Rate by 15%.
[Command]
When the operating character takes damage from an enemy under [Command], decrease the enemy's Tension by 5.
When launching an attack that consumes Stamina towards an enemy under [Command], increase own Critical Rate by 20%.
This effect can also be considered as [Control].

All Out

Extremely good card, providing a damage increase to every attack at the cost of draining some stamina. Forces a different playstyle for most characters, but the DPS increase is generally worth it. Particularly abusable by Kazuki.

When an Attack Action is executed, consume additional Stamina. Increase the Damage Bonus of the action by5.4%.

Maximization

The OTHER Control card. Counterattacking is generally vital to achieving quick breaks, so the difference between this and Excuse isn’t really noticeable.

Arguably the best Control card due to our break to nuke meta, giving your team 15% crit rate before you start your chain skills.

When inflicting Break on an enemy, grant the target [Control] for3.6s.

Vanquish

Limit Break payoff part 2. Just like Endless Serving, this is a great payoff.

When a Primary Attack/Secondary Attack hits, increase Primary and Secondary Attack DMG Multiplier by7.2%. Based on the stacks of [Reconstruct], further increase Primary and Secondary Attack DMG Multiplier by0.28%.

Maximum 50 stacks.
Based on the number of stacks, increase own Critical DMG Multiplier by 0.1%.
If the number of stacks doesn't increase within 5 seconds, all stacks will be removed.

Fighting With Flames

One of the best 3* cards to randomly get. A massive attack point boost for just pressing Strategy Skill is insane. Even without Unbending this card is just great.
All Party Members
When the operating character executes a Strategy Skill, create a Field effect that can increase Attack point by18% for 15s. When a character within the Field is under [Unbending], further increase Attack point by18%.
[Unbending]
When receiving an attack that will reduce own HP to 0, 1 HP will remain.
After the effect is activated, [Unbending] will be removed and [Resuscitate] will be granted.

Endless Serving

TIER A
One of the two payoffs to Limit Break. A pretty good one too.
All Party Members
Increase Ultimate Skill DMG Multiplier by9%. Based on the stacks of [Reconstruct], further increase Ultimate Skill DMG Multiplier by0.36%. When an Ultimate Skill is executed, party members' [Reconstruct] will be removed.
[Reconstruct]
Maximum 50 stacks.
Based on the number of stacks, increase own Critical DMG Multiplier by 0.1%.
If the number of stacks doesn't increase within 5 seconds, all stacks will be removed.

Add Insult to Injury

Despite the hate this card gets, this card is great for Tsuruko’s DPS output. You’re already likely pairing her with passive 1 Iroha anyway, especially if you pulled for Kazuki and have Iroha T5. A more detailed analysis can be found on our “should you pull” guide, but for a TLDR: if you have T1 Iroha, consider picking this card up.
Characters: Conditions Met
Based on the number of times continuous damage is dealt or Recovery Effect is granted to a same target by the operating character, grant them a same number of stacks of [Whispering Spirits] for 5s. When reaching the maximum stack of [Whispering Spirits], further increase Support point by13.5.
[Whispering Spirits]
Maximum 5 stacks.
Based on the number of stacks, increase Support point by2.7.
After the effect is granted, cannot grant the same effect within 5s.

The Game Starts Now

We did a “should you buy” guide for this card if you want a more in depth look, but this card is basically a better version of Mita’s chibi card for AI Tsuruko/Iroha.
Characters: Conditions Met
When the operating character executes a Chain Skill, the next character executing their Chain Skill will recover2.88%of their Maximum HP. For the character receiving the HP Recovery Effect, increase their Support point by13.5 for 15s.

Interlocking Stratagems

TIER A
The real payoff to running Star Actor cards. Since piloting a breaker is generally optimal anyway, this allows for some pretty chunky chain skill damage and a decent attack point buff for the breaker (who is also likely sub DPSing). Particularly good for T1 Yo.
Characters: Conditions Met
When a Chain Skill is executed, grant the character who executed the Chain Skill 1 stack of [Interlocking Stratagems]. When granted [Star Actor] and the maximum stack of [Interlocking Stratagems] at the same time, increase the Attack point of that character by4.86%.
[Interlocking Stratagems]
Maximum 3 stacks.
Based on the number of stacks, increase Chain Skill DMG Multiplier by2.16%.
This effect can be inherited at +1 additional stack by the next character executing their Chain Skill.
This effect will be removed upon a character change, and there will be a 30s CD.
[Star Actor]
Increase Attack point by 5%.
This effect will not be granted on the operating character, and will be removed when a character becomes the operating character.

Chaotic Order

TIER A
Insanely good bossing card for all of one character. The only character who can self damage at the moment is Enoki, who abuses this card extremely well. The enemy tension gain increase is also good for her since it makes enemies do more aggressive attacks, allowing for more counterattack opportunities. It’s also irrelevant against bosses since they force themselves into EX phase anyways.
All Party Members
At the start of battle, grant all members 5 stacks of [Disorder]. When the operating character takes damage, recharge allies' Tension by0.9. Enemy's Tension will recharge 2x faster.
[Disorder]
Maximum 50 stacks.
For party members granted this effect, based on the number of stacks, increase own Critical Rate by 0.5%.
For enemies granted this effect, based on the number of stacks, increase own Attack point by 1%.
While under [Disorder], when party members take damage or execute a Perfect Evasion/Counterattack successfully, grant all members 1 stack.
If the number of stacks doesn't increase within 15 seconds, all stacks will be removed.

Pulsating Life

A more realistic way to boost your ult damage multiplier. Clinical is comically easy to activate with passive 2 Yo.
All Party Members
Increase Ultimate Skill DMG Multiplier by5.4%. When a character is granted [Clinical], increase their Ultimate Skill DMG Multiplier by5.4% for 10s.
[Clinical]
Recover 1% of own Maximum HP every 3 seconds.

Gem of Flames

A great card for very specific teams. Easily enabled by running AI Saigo or AI Enoki, or running a bad AI teammate like Senju or Q.
Characters: Conditions Met
When a party member other than the operating character takes damage, increase the operating character's Attack point by12.6% for 10s. This effect will be removed upon a character change.

Filthy Rich Guy

TIER A
A worthy contender to Kazuki’s signature card, providing a flat crit rate amount unconditionally. Depending on your gear you might be able to run this instead and still hit 100% crit rate. If you happen to have T5 Eiji the 20% crit rate he provides on top of this card will more than match Kazuki’s while providing the insane buff and passive tension gain that Eiji brings (at the cost of losing Kazuki’s break speed). More importantly, you could combine this combo WITH Kazuki and his signature card to remove the Unity duo from your set up and give you an extra card slot to work with (and rid yourself of Strike Zone). If we ever get a primary/secondary attack focused DPS (technically Gotanda exists but we can do better than that) this card’s value will greatly increase. Also technically has synergy with Nobles Obligation but it’s not really needed here.
Characters: Conditions Met
When dealing damage to an enemy, increase Critical Rate by3.6% for 3s. When the effect is active, based on the stacks of [Nobles Obligation], further increase Critical Rate by0.9%for each stack.
[Nobles Obligation]
Maximum 10 stacks.
When other party members granted a buff deal damage to the enemy, grant oneself 1 stack of [Nobles Obligation].
When reaching the maximum stack, perform an attack at 150% Action DMG for a certain range with oneself as the center.

Diligent Perusal

Good payoff for Tsuruko, but do note its requirement of having to perform a Secondary Attack. It’s a bit annoying to activate and maintain but still worth doing so.
Characters: Conditions Met
When the operating character executes a Secondary Attack, increase the Action DMG of Additional Attacks by5.4% for 10s. When granted [Curse], further increase the Action DMG of Additional Attacks by5.4%.
[Curse]
For party members granted this effect, decrease own Primary and Secondary Attack DMG Multiplier by 25%.
When there are enemies granted this effect, deal an additional attack to the enemy at 60% Action DMG every 3s.

Heavy Metal

Now THIS is a good Defense point card. I eagerly await the day we get a defense scaling DPS to see this card get abused. Currently Saigo can abuse this to become literally immortal (although he can already do this with Cut Rate++).

When executing a Strategy Skill, increase Defense point by90%and is less likely to lose balance for 10s. When the effect is active, decrease Moving Speed by 25%. When the effect is active, consume Tension by 10.

Risk Management

If you’re running a ranged DPS, this card is just a better All Out. More importantly, you can stack them together. Very strong card.
Characters: Conditions Met
When the operating character hits a target over a certain distance, increase Damage Bonus by9%. When the operating character hits a target within a certain distance, decrease Damage Bonus by 50%.

Breakthrough

A very strange Kingship card. Technically provides the best Kingship of any card, but has a very weird debuff attached.
Characters: Conditions Met
When Chain Skill is executed, grant the first character to execute their Chain Skill 10 stacks of [Kingship], but decrease Stamina recovery speed by 90% for33.33s.
[Kingship]
Maximum 30 stacks.
Based on the number of stacks, increase own Primary Attack/Secondary Attack/Chain Skill DMG Multiplier by 0.1%.
When Stamina is recovered outside of basic Stamina recovery, gain 1 stack.

Unpredictable Bomb Girl

Basically New Hope but without needing to weave secondaries before strategy skill. Even with max Disorder New Hope scales better.
Characters: Conditions Met
When the operating character hits an enemy with a Strategy Skill, increase the operating character's Strategy Skill DMG Multiplier by6.3%. If the operating character is granted [Disorder], based on the stacks of [Disorder], further increase Strategy Skill DMG Multiplier by0.21%for each stack.

Maximum 50 stacks.
For party members granted this effect, based on the number of stacks, increase own Critical Rate by 0.5%.
For enemies granted this effect, based on the number of stacks, increase own Attack point by 1%.

New Hope

Extremely good card if you can get to EX. Multiple characters tend to secondary -> strategy skill and they all can abuse this card quite well. Having synergy with Unity is icing on the cake. Would be rated higher if it wasn’t EX phase.

When a Secondary Attack is executed, increase the DMG Multiplier of the next Strategy Skill by8.1%. If the Secondary Attack is executed while granted [Unity], there will be 2x effectiveness.

Unyielding Negotiation Skill

Provides a decent amount of primary and secondary attack damage if you don't mind dedicating a second slot for Control. Not a lot of characters who can fully abuse it when better options exist.

When a Secondary Attack hits, increase Secondary Attack DMG Multiplier by2.7%. When attacking an enemy under [Control], increase Primary Attack DMG Multiplier by2.7%.

Leading Wisdom

The payoff for Kingship, potentially allowing for a massive ult damage multiplier increase and self fueling Bombard. However, it is currently very difficult to stack Kingship. The payoff is somewhat worth it but there are far easier ways to boost your ult damage, and ult efficiency substats let you retain tension phase just fine.
Characters: Conditions Met
When a character executes an Ultimate Skill, increase Ultimate Skill DMG Multiplier by4.5% for 5s. Consume all party member's [Kingship] stacks, and for each stack of [Kingship] consumed, decrease the amount of Tension consumed to execute the Ultimate Skill by0.18%.

Maximum 30 stacks.
Based on the number of stacks, increase own Primary Attack/Secondary Attack/Chain Skill DMG Multiplier by 0.1%.
When Stamina is recovered outside of basic Stamina recovery, gain 1 stack.

Detonator

THE meme card. Basically a more consistent version of Blades Dance, but with a tension cost requirement (and probably a Control card too). Despite the tension drain the damage is good enough if you’re running a character who doesn’t need to ult (Tsuruko being the obvious option, but Jio or Kazuki can also abuse this card). Will likely fall off when enemies start getting more health due to its rather low damage multiplier.
Characters: Conditions Met
When dealing a Critical Hit, launch an Additional Attack with9%x3Action DMG. Towards targets under [Control], launch an Additional Attack no matter if a Critical hit is dealt or not. When the effect is active, consume Tension by 2.

When the operating character takes damage from an enemy under [Control], decrease the enemy's Tension by 3.
When launching an attack towards an enemy under [Control], increase own Critical Rate by 15%.

Resurrected Ultimate Weapon

Honestly not that bad. The extra Kingship bonus isn’t really important here; you’re just using this to give your Iroha/Tsuruko a bit of extra damage unconditionally. Still outclassed by more direct options, but if you lack those this is fine.
All Party Members
Increase Support point by2.7. Based on own [Kingship] stacks, further increase Support point by0.27for each stack.
[Kingship]
Maximum 30 stacks.
Based on the number of stacks, increase own Primary Attack/Secondary Attack/Chain Skill DMG Multiplier by 0.1%.

Professional

Another good payoff to Charm, best abused by DPS Yo builds. You’re still likely better off running All Out.

When a Secondary Attack hits, increase Strategy Skill DMG Multiplier by2.25%and increase Ultimate Skill DMG Multiplier by1.08% for 10s. When a Secondary Attack hits an enemy granted [Charm], there will be 2x effectiveness.

When oneself is being attacked by an enemy granted [Charm], the enemy will enter a status where Attack point is decreased by 5%.

Piping Hot!

You’re already running Unity anyways so this card’s bonus is always active. Very good if you’re running a character with a good strategy skill.

When a Strategy Skill hits, increase Strategy Skill DMG Multiplier by2.7%. When under [Unity], further increase Strategy Skill DMG Multiplier by2.7%.

When there are 3 party members, increase party member's Defense point by 5%.

Go One Better

The extremely rare and coveted defense point reduction. Pretty much exclusively good for teams running passive 1 Jio to maximize defense reduction. Probably not worth running over better options, but it IS a use case.

When attacking with a Strategy Skill, decrease the enemy's Defense point by2.56%and then deliver the attack. When a Strategy Skill hits an enemy granted [Charm], there will be 2x effectiveness.
[Charm]
When oneself is being attacked by an enemy granted [Charm], the enemy will enter a status where Attack point is decreased by 5%.

Mastery

Actually useful for Kazuki, Jio, and technically Tsuruko/Miu. You still have better options, but it does enable some funny playstyles. Out of respect for its synergies, it is rated higher than it would otherwise deserve.

Energy Steal

The actual good healing card for phase 1. Rated on the basis that you actually need healing for whatever reason.

Ejection

Actually sees use due to enabling Kazuki’s card generically for all teams. Practically every enemy will raise their tension bar pretty quickly so you lose very little time activating Things to Hold On To.

When enemy's Tension Phase increases, grant party members a Shield with the resistance equivalent to4.32%of the operating character's Maximum HP, and can decrease damage taken by 30%.

Stimulation

Surprisingly pretty good thanks to its synergy with Koichi’s chibi card. Ironically Koichi himself makes little use of this. Any character that can apply healing even semi-regularly can get even more healing from this effect. Notable synergies with passive 2 Yo, passive 1 Tsuruko, and Minami. This card's rating is bumped due to synergy with Pulsating Life.

When granting recovery, grant the character who has been granted recovery [Clinical] for3.6s.
This effect will not be triggered by the recovery from [Clinical].

Recover 1% of own Maximum HP every 3 seconds.

Mastermind

Star Actor is actually pretty good, but it’s hard to justify the slots for it over more generically useful options. If you lack better generic damage increasing options and your main DPS is AI friendly it’s a decent F2P option.

Increase Attack point by 5%.

Battle Tactics

Curse itself is miserable damage wise but it does enable Tsuruko’s chibi card.

Reverse Therapy

TIER C
Extremely funny for Koishi to turn his burst heal into a nuke, but Koishi has an actual usable DPS build that doesn’t need to run a specific card just to nuke every 30 seconds.
Special Condition
Reverse Recovery Effect and deal damage equivalent to54%of Recovery Effect. The amount of damage dealt will cap off at 8000% Attack point.

Quintuple Play
EX
TIER C
Theoretically useful but EX requirement is absurd for a card intended to generate Tension. Would’ve been really good and make Mita actually meta if this was a phase 1 card.
Special Condition
When a debuff on an enemy is removed, decrease all enemies' Attack point by3.6% for 10s. Each time this effect is activated, recharge allies' Tension by0.9.

Ace Vision

The final slowdown card, given out for free. The easiest to proc of the 3 as well since it’s universal and dodging costs minimal stamina.
Specal Condition
When the operating character executes Perfect Evasion successfully, the flow of time in the surrounding area will slow down for0.9s. After the effect is activated, there will be a 25s CD.

Rebuke

TIER C
Another time slower card. Having a CD instead of a tension cost makes it both better and worse in some ways. Still a gimmick.
Special Condition
When the operating character executes Deflect Counterattack successfully, the flow of time in the surrounding area will slow down for0.9s. After the effect is activated, there will be a 35s CD.

Mutual Trust

TIER C
Honestly this card is fine. While it does fall into the 'skill issue' category at least its effect is easy, reusable, and Disorder stacks up fast enough for this card's intended user(s) that it’s not a big deal to lose them.
Characters: Conditions Met
When the HP of the operating character is lower than 25%, recover their HP by18%of their Maximum HP. When there are 30 or above [Disorder] on the field, this effect can be activated again. After the effect is activated, all members' [Disorder] stacks will be removed.

Maximum 50 stacks.
For party members granted this effect, based on the number of stacks, increase own Critical Rate by 0.5%.
For enemies granted this effect, based on the number of stacks, increase own Attack point by 1%.

Instant Perception

Time slow cards are fun and gimmicky, but not worth spending 30 Tension to activate. It has the potential to permanently slow down time, though promoting unhealthy habits is not encouraged.
Special Condition
When the operating character executes Dodge Counterattack successfully, the flow of time in the surrounding area will slow down for0.9s. When the effect is active, consume Tension by 30.

Croesus
